Be amazed with the views from Mount Lofty Summit - before arriving at the wildlife park, we take a short stop at Mount Lofty Summit to enjoy the magnificent panorama
over Adelaide. At approximately 710m, the summit is the highest point in the Adelaide Hills with uninterrupted views to the Gulf St. Vincent and as far as the eye can see north and south along the coastline.


Experience the Cleland Wildlife Park difference - this 35-hectare natural bush setting provides a unique open space environment with very few enclosures. It is home to over 130 species of native animals and is one of only a few places in the world where you can hold a koala. Cleland Wildlife Park is well known for its management and care in the health and wellbeing of the animals.

Choose your Koala encounter * - get up close to Australia’s iconic Koala! Your entry fee includes the koala ‘close up’ experience (meet, talk to, & photograph a koala). An optional koala ‘hold’ experience is available for an additional fee from AUD$33.00 pp. The koala ‘hold’ experience cannot be pre-booked.

Walk among the free roaming animals - as you explore the park and follow the self-discovery trails, find an abundance of native wildlife and walk among the free roaming animals in their natural environment. Explore the lively wetlands where the pelicans, cormorants and water birds live. See kangaroos, emus, dingoes, wallabies, Tasmanian devils and many more!

Enjoy an immersive experience **- engaging with the park’s friendliest inhabitants provide a truly immersive experience. The best way to get up close to the kangaroos, wallabies and potoroos is by hand feeding them with the included animal food. The creeks, rock pools and the higher slopes of the Gorge offer a perfect habitat to several species of frogs and small lizards such as geckos, skinks, and dragons.


Visit all three waterfalls - the seasonal waterfalls along Fourth Creek are one of the best known features of the park. Morialta Falls and Second Falls are the grandest, each cascading over
sheer quartzite cliffs. Nestled at the end of the trail is the less visited but most tranquil Third Falls – be stunned by its peaceful and natural setting and take the time to listen to the softly cascading water.


See amazing birdlife and wildflowers - listen to the sounds and observe the many native birds such as the Superb Fairy-wren, rare Golden Whistler, Rainbow Lorikeet and the iconic Laughing Kookaburra. Use the supplied binoculars and be amazed by how many species you can discover. Every winter and spring the park is abundant with native wildflowers including many delicate and colourful orchid species.

Encounter Bay

So many experiences all in one day - this combined tour is a great option for the adventurous experience seeker! Starting out on the Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Hike, trek to the summit to enjoy the panoramic views overlooking the Adelaide Plains and Gulf St. Vincent. Then follow the trail to Cleland Wildlife Park to spend the rest of the day engaging with some of Australia’s most unique and curious wildlife.


Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit Hike - a short scenic drive from the city takes you direct to the trailhead of Adelaide’s most popular hike. Arriving around 8.30am for an introduction and orientation from your tour guide, you will then set off with your guide following the trails at your pace. Depending upon your rest and interest stops along the way expect to take between 1 to 2 hours to arrive at the Summit.


Cleland Wildlife Park Experience - just down from the Summit is another beautiful bush track leading to the Cleland Wildlife Park. Re-energise at the Cleland Gecko Café on arrival before exploring the 35-hectare park on the self-discovery trails. Walk among the free roaming animals in their natural environment, stop to hand feed the kangaroos and wallabies, be amazed at the
lively wetland birds and be sure to visit Australia’s cutest inhabitants for the Koala ‘close up’ experience.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • This hike is graded as hard. The Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Hike involves steep sections and uneven surfaces and a good level of fitness and mobility is required. The hike is approximately 2 – 3 hours return (7.8km).
  • The tour has a minimum age requirement on 12 and is not recommended for young children. All children 12 – 17 years must be accompanied by a fare paying adult.
  • We recommend wearing comfortable walking/hiking shoes, sunscreen, hat and sunglasses and bring a small lightweight backpack for personal items. Bring a full reusable water bottle which can be refilled for free at Mount Lofty Summit with fresh spring water.

An inspiring half day tour experience that provides easy access to Adelaide’s most popular walking trail! This guided hike takes you from the serenity of Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit.

Challenge yourself on Adelaide’s favourite hike! This tough, yet rewarding guided hike takes you from the serenity of Waterfall Gully and along the trails of Cleland Conservation Park to the summit at Mount Lofty. At 710m witness stunning panoramic views over-looking the Adelaide plains and Gulf St Vincent.

  • Start the day fresh, active and inspired! In an area abundant with native wildlife you will hike past waterfalls, along streams and follow the gully ridges. Immerse yourself in the natural
    environment and be sure to soak up the negative ions as you pass by the waterfalls and flowing streams to feel even more invigorated.
  • Return transport direct to the trail head provides hassle free and easy access to this popular trail. Upon arrival at the trail head be greeted by your tour guide and get ready to start the hike to the Summit. Your guide will provide you with a short introduction and orientation before guiding you on the hike.
  • At the summit there will be time to admire the stunning views across Adelaide and beyond. Then treat yourself to an energising coffee and snack at the Summit Café (at own expense) before taking the return route back to the trail head.

TOUR DETAILS

Breathe the fresh morning air at Waterfall Gully - a short scenic drive from the city takes you direct to the trailhead of Adelaide’s most popular hike. Arriving around 8.30am, be amazed by your first sight of the spectacular First Falls sparkling in the morning sunshine. Depending upon your interest stops along the way, expect to take between 1 to 2 hours to arrive at the Summit.

Appreciate the serenity of nature with a morning hike - fully immerse yourself in the environment and sense the wilderness while listening to the sounds of the native birdlife. Detect the distinctive scents of the eucalyptus trees as the 3.9km trail climbs past waterfalls, along streams and gully ridges. Keep a keen eye out for sleepy koalas high in the gum trees, small lizards or even a kangaroo grazing in the bush!

Be rewarded with mind-blowing views - sense the feeling of height as you reach the summit and be rewarded with breathtaking views over Adelaide and beyond. See the city buildings, parklands and iconic Adelaide Oval, look out across the plains to the Airport, the coastal town of Glenelg and the far reaches of Port Adelaide. On a clear day, you may even sight Kangaroo Island!

Re-energise at the Summit Café - the Café is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a morning coffee or brunch (own expense) while admiring the views. Be sure to take some time to learn
some interesting facts and history about the Summit before following your guide back down to Waterfall Gully. The return hike should take around 1 hour.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • This hike is graded as hard. The Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Hike involves steep sections and uneven surfaces and a good level of fitness and mobility is required. The hike is approximately 2 – 3 hours return (7.8km).
  • The tour has a minimum age requirement on 12 and is not recommended for young children. All children 12 – 17 years must be accompanied by a fare paying adult.
  • We recommend wearing comfortable walking/hiking shoes, sunscreen, hat and sunglasses and bring a small lightweight backpack for personal items. Bring a full reusable water bottle which can be refilled for free at Mount Lofty Summit with fresh spring water.
